Pyohaerok is the story of drift, and it generally contains the spectacular adventures on the voyage and the way back. But this story is recorded only by survivors overcome the difficulties. There may be the numerous unrecorded stories. Pyohaerok of Seogang Univ. collection is recorded the drift of Lee Bang-ik who was the minor official during the Jeongjo(正祖) rule. He took a ship with seven people at Jeju island on Sep 21th 1796, they lost direction and went adrift. After a few days they landed in Penghu(澎湖), the island neighboring Taiwan, and passed through Xiamen(厦門), Fujian(福建), Hangzhou(杭州), Suzhou(蘇州), Shandong(山東), Beijing(北京), finally returned safely to Chosun province. The records about the drift of Lee Bang-ik are handed down in many different forms and substances. There are the official and historical record, the some private record of intellectual, and the record in poetic style. But Pyohaerok of Seogang Univ. collection is the non-official, non-historical and non-poetic record. And this work is most detailed about the incident of Lee Bang-ik's drift. This is the significant meaning of Pyohaerok of Seogang Univ. collection.
