This article attempts to understand the political psychology of South Korean preferences on nuclear weapons-related policy issues, including the North Korean nuclear threat and South Korea’s own nuclear armament, focusing on moral founda- tions. Using a nationally representative sample, it statistically tests hypotheses that binding moral foundations, known to have selective affinity with conservatism, would lead individuals to be more sensitive to the North Korean nuclear threat and to show conservative preferences for nuclear weapons policies. The results show that, unlike in the West, differences in nuclear threat perception and nuclear weapons policy preferences based on seemingly irreconcilable moral and political ideologies and ideologies have not surfaced, at least not yet.
