초록

This paper views Chang's pictorial images and R. Brooks's autonomous robots from the perspective of production and transformation. I posit that images are not objects that are fixed and static and awaiting aesthetic interpretation but rather variable beings that transform with its author and observers. Derived from Chang's unique way of life, his pictural images become produced as beings that float with the observers' sensations and perception. Chang's works, <Grandson> and <Ascetic> show the movements in becoming his image-beings. These properties of being also appear in the autonomous robots. They generate their rules for themselves and adapt to their outer-world by themselves. It is these very autopoietic abilities make an differentiate them from merely instrumental beings. Brooks materalizes the movement of becoming in his robots. His Subsumption Architecture explains that the machines can construct their own world in without the conception of self or self-consciousness. Thus the becoming of being traverses from images to machines
