Goguryeo actively adopted the lantern ceiling style from the early mural tomb, Anak Tomb No. 3 in 357, to the Gangseo Great Tomb. The lantern ceiling, which appears throughout Eurasia, was used as an actual architectural method or decoration in various structures such as tombs and temples depending on the region and period. Among the two types of lantern ceiling, the ceiling architecture that covers the corners appears in the early and late tombs of Goguryeo, and in China in the Shandong region and Thracian stone tombs of the Eastern Han period. Examples expressed in relief or painting include the hollow tile tombs in Luoyang during the Western Han period in China, the mural tombs of Henan during the Eastern Han period, A cliff tomb in Sichuan, the ancient mural tombs of Gansu during the Wei and Jin periods, the Dunhuang Grottoes, Yungang Grottoes, and Kizil Grottoes during the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the Bamiyan Grottoes and Poradi Grottoes in Afghanistan, and the Etruscan tombs in Italy, etc. The stone tombs of Thrace were influenced by the stone tomb architecture of the Kingdom of Macedonia, and since the Greek colonies established in the Thracian region around the 7th century BC were built by citizens of the trading city of Miletus in Asia Minor, it is difficult to say that the horse-shaped court of Thrace stone tombs first appeared in Thrace. Goguryeo mural tombs were designated as a World Cultural Heritage due to the diverse lifestyles and myths found in the murals in over 100 tombs, as well as the outstanding architectural techniques including the lantern ceiling. The lantern ceiling, one of the architectural techniques of the Goguryeo mural tombs, is an architectural feature found not only in Goguryeo but also in a vast area including Europe, Central Asia, and China. It can be seen that Goguryeo, when building the mural tombs, incorporated the excellent architectural techniques of the Goguryeo people and referenced various architectural traditions of Eurasia.
