초록
This study aimed to investigate the effects of after-school group art therapy for enhancing positive social behavior and improving peer relationships among elementary school children who experienced emotional difficulties and heightened individualistic tendencies following the COVID-19 pandemic. The study involved seven students from 3rd to 6th grade at S Elementary School in Seoul. A total of 34 group art therapy sessions were conducted once a week, two sessions per day from May to November 2024, excluding summer vacation. To assess changes in the participants, pre- and post-assessments were administered using the Kinetic School Drawing (KSD) and Tree-Drawing Test. In addition, teachers completed the Social Competency Scale for assessing the children. The data from the pre- and post-tests, along with session-by-session changes, were analyzed qualitatively. The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, after-school group art therapy significantly enhanced children’s positive social behaviors. Second, it showed positive effects on improving their peer relationships. This study contributes to the understanding that after-school group art therapy is an effective intervention for enhancing positive social behavior and improving peer relationships among elementary school children.
