초록
This study explored the college-life experiences of adult learners using case studies. The experiences of eight middle-aged and elderly learners attending night classes at a two-year college in the Seoul metropolitan area were categorized into three subjects: “Evolution of the Self,” “Harmony Being,” and “Self-Integration.” The results of the study confirmed that middle-aged and elderly learners pursue individual growth and development through academic work and experience the process of discovering new identities and reestablishing their social roles. However, they face various challenges such as parallel academic and work lives, difficulties in social interaction, and communication problems between generations. To address these problems, it is necessary to develop a customized support system that includes flexible class schedules, mentoring programs, and learning support groups. This study is expected to contribute to future education policies and program development by reflecting the voices of middle-aged and elderly learners, addressing their educational needs, and providing basic data to overcome the crisis in specialized universities.
