Academic writing can be defined as a writing for a member of academic discourse community to produce intellectual discourse. And writing is unavoidably related to reading. The aim of this article is to emphasize the importance of reading education and to explore the method to incorporate it with writing education. The academic writing education has covered various areas with vague definition. There is no doubt that curriculum of writing education necessarily includes creative writing, critical writing, political writing, and explanatory writing. But to consider the direction of academic writing education as one part of general education, the focus of academic writing education should be signifying practice through writing as social practice. In this sense, the critical writing would be a core in academic writing that presents compelling arguments with potent reasoning. The points of my argument that reading education should be a key part in academic writing education, are; Firstly, the reading education allows to have holistic understanding on the context, which is necessary for understanding the meaning of discourse production as social practice; secondly, reading is important to get writing materials. To use reliable data and to make logical quotation are key factors of critical writing; thirdly, reading becomes more important for critical adaptation and acceptance in the new reading environment, created by internet. I also suggest a incorporative education method of writing with reading as the central part. It is a pilot program that will be developed into a lecture model.
