This thesis aims at finding out what people actually do when they consult dictionaries for learning English or translating from Korean to English. Two surveys were performed on Korean ESL students and TESOL program students. In the first survey, students were asked about their thought on Korean-English dictionaries. They told that Korean-English dictionaries do not have much information. In the second survey, students were asked to translate a paragraph from Korean to English and to record the process of consulting dictionaries. They reported that they consulted dictionaries to find out appropriate English expressions for Korean expressions but their dictionaries did not provide sufficient information.
