Although social gathering is one of the distinctive facets of organizational life, it has relatively been overlooked and the related studies were rare. In a societies with strong group focused cultures like Korea, social gathering is rather compulsory than voluntary. This study has attempted to theorize about the effects of semi-coercive social gathering on employees’ job satisfaction and turnover intention and tried to demonstrate the moderating effects of person-organization fit on the association between semi-coercive social gathering and employees’ job satisfaction and turnover intention. A survey questionnaire which includes semi-coercive company dinners, person-organization fit, employees’ job satisfaction and turnover was administrated and obtained responses from 200 Korean employees currently working at organizations in Korea. Baed on prior studies, this study set semi-coercive social gathering as an independent variable along with the job satisfaction and turnover intention as dependent variables. person-organization fit was adapted as a moderating variable. Results suggested that semi-coercive social gathering was negatively related to job satisfaction and positively related to turnover intention. Results also suggested the higher the person-organization fit is, the stronger it associates with the semi-coercive social gathering and the turnover intention. This study implies academic potentials of company dinners as a decisive factor of many job-related behavior and by doing so, can lead further studies on their strategic uses.
