This study aims to investigate the sequential mediating effects of perfectionistic self-presentation and cognitive flexibility on the relationship between insecure adult attachment(comprising avoidant attachment and anxious attachment) and interpersonal problems among university students. The sample consisted of 284 university students from across the country. The results of the study are summarized as follows. First, significant correlations were found among avoidant attachment, anxious attachment, perfectionistic self-presentation, cognitive flexibility, and interpersonal problems. Second, perfectionistic self-presentation and cognitive flexibility were found to sequentially mediate the relationship between sub-factors of insecure adult attachment(avoidant and anxious attachment) and interpersonal problems. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the complex relationship between insecure adult attachment and interpersonal problems. Specifically, it highlights the importance of considering perfectionistic self-presentation and cognitive flexibility when addressing interpersonal issues in university students with insecure adult attachment. The findings suggest that interventions targeting these mediating factors may be effective in helping students overcome interpersonal challenges associated with insecure attachment patterns.
