This study investigates the effects of a song-based therapeutic music activities on loneliness and life satisfaction among elders in a day care center. The subjects were aged 65 years or older, agreed to participate, demonstrated effective communication and questionnaire response without hearing issues, and had no prior experience with music therapy. The experimental and control groups consisted of 17 subjects each. The experimental group received weekly 60-minute sessions of song-based therapeutic music activities for a total of eight sessions. Loneliness levels were assessed using the UCLA Loneliness scale, developed by Russell et al.(1980) and modified by Won(1994). Life satisfaction levels were measured using the Life Satisfaction Index-Z for the elderly, created by Neugarten, Havighurst, and Tobin(1961) and translated by Lee(1999). The results are that there were a significant difference in the loneliness scores and life satisfaction score between the experimental and control groups. Consequently, this study confirms the positive impact of song-based therapeutic music activities on loneliness and life satisfaction among elderly individuals in day care centers. These findings hold significance as a foundation for the development and implementation of psychological and emotional support programs tailored to elders.
