Gerontophobia grows under the influence of socially and culturally constructed discourse on old age in which it is portrayed negatively. The popular media play a significant role in forming such discourse. This article particularly focuses on webtoons that the younger generation can easily access while recognizing the fact that the conflict between the older and younger generation is deteriorating. The dailytoon “Welcome to Silver Life” is interesting in that it reproduces the life of old age in real life, instead of being a fictional story created by the author. This webtoon shows the perspective of rethinking the old self and the meaning of aging by actively utilizing the advantages of the medium while transforming the typical format of dailytoons. Therefore, “Welcome to Silver Life” is significant by critically reproducing the existing discourse on old age and constructing an alternative discourse that re-examines old age.
