Some Motives for Aesthetics of Interaction: A Critical Explanation of HCI and Interaction Design on Activity Theory

초록

Recently, we can see easily that the digital artefacts of interaction design and HCI have become more creative and aesthetic works. These phenomena are not presented until the global economy accomplishes a reproduction structure of the consumer-individual's the aesthetic taste of everyday life. The economic-social influence makes researchers of interaction design and HCI take some positive interests in the user(human). Their recent researches deal with a transformability of design by user-participation beyond the understanding of user's properties in the user-centered design. In order to accomplish this design goal, they consider human intention, actions, activities, and his environments. But in the domestic field of interaction design and HCI, there is a wide gab between theory and practice, and it can be an obstacle to the development of the fields. This paper provides a medium for the related domain to fill the gab: the second layer of the domain, Activity Theory. Activity Theory has provided them some important theoretically grounded concepts. And especially its concept, “activities on the situated-context” provides some theoretical motives for the aesthetics of interaction that will find a new way beyond its modern formalism. But some prepositions of Activity Theory have a deep colors of modern logocentrism and a mechanistic stance. This paper considers these theoretical limits with critical rulers.
