초록

Taewonji is a novel with the narrative of Lim Seong and his party from Central China(“Jungwon”), who drift along the Great Sea, conquer the area called Taewon, and build a new nation. Lim Seong and his party pass through several islands and meet the beings from each land during the drift. The beings in the drift area have bizarre shapes or have magical abilities or ‘things’ that mice, nine-tailed foxes, etc. have been transformed into human forms. In this study, it focused on female monsters, which are described with different senses from monsters considered to be male. The female monsters in Taewonji seduce men with their beauty, confine them in a deep cave or a strong fortress surrounded by layers of walls, and either eat or kill them. They do not engage in confrontation with Lim Seong and his party.Fear of them is only created in the process of their beauty, confinement, cannibalism, and murder. In the shape of such a female monsters, the imagination and perception of the female monster outside the sea, which Eastern and Western narratives share, are reflected. It seems that the fear of the mother who is primordial and deprives, the fear of sexuality and the vigilant gaze are applied together.
