In Joseon dynasty, differenf from Goryeo dynasty, the Buddhism maintained centering around belief. The monastries of Joseon dynasty connected with regional society, and some of their various records are remained now. The study on the Buddhism of Joseon dynasty start at gathering and arranging those records. The numbers of monasteries in Joseon dynasty were much changed. We should examine the real aspects of monastery numbers in this transition situation. With this point, we examine that either the active working monks are effected those numbers or not. In 16th century, the publication of Buddhism books was very popular. We should examine the books which handed down at so many monastries throughout the nation. In Honam region, only one monastery was appointed among 36 monastries in nation. So we find the reason that Honam monastries could publicated so many books. In late Joseon dynasty, Buhyu school monks founded a firm doctrinal school based on Songgwangsa, in other hand Pyeonyang and Soyo lineage of Cheongheo school prospered at Daedunsa. We should survey the reason why they were so active in Honam region, on the contrary monasteries of Yeongnam region were in more flourishing condition. Seongchong in Songgwangsa published many Buddhism books and they changed the Korean Buddhist learning course. Baekpa and Choeui made an argument about three kinds of Seon. They are the most notable themes of late Joseon dynasty Buddhism. Why they were made in Honam region? We should examine the basic ground of them. The meaning of these publishing and argument shows the situation in Buddhist work. And furthermore we can guide the autogenous power of Joseon Buddhism. In Honam region, the Confucianists met Buddhist profoundly because of their exile. We shoyld compare the Confucianists thought between before and after their exile who met Buddhist. The righteous navy was found only in Honam region along the coast. It can suggest the Buddhist's response to the national load and the management of monastries. Through this, we can survey thr characteristics of Honam Buddhism. The study on Joseon Buddhism depend on accumulating sources. This subject should performed by regional researchers. The gathering and arranging records can show the characteristic of regional culture. Also it can show the understanding of the circumstances of Joseon Buddhism. The Honam Buddhism contains most essential themes of Buddhism in Joseon dynasty. The significance of gathering and arranging Honam Buddhism records lie in this point.
