초록

This article is about the Pingtan Island development in China, for the sake of the new straits development model construction between China and Taiwan. The Pingtan project is a new attempt of China to develop tourism based businesses in that area. This development exploring the region of the Taiwan Strait for the tourism industry reflects a new trend taking place in China. In this article, theory models and basic components that support regional tourism are used for the general facts of the regional development project. We review general resources of Pingtan, development positioning, the present state of the project and analyze potential conditions of Pingtan with SWOT analysis. Therefore, this study suggests the followings for the effective and instructive policy proposal. 1) Clear target market, 2) Strengthen attractiveness and uniqueness of Pingtan, 3) Establishment of “Straits Tourism” as a tourist destination, 4) Corporate design inspired by traditional Chinese art and culture.
