초록

This study investigates the perception gap regarding machine translation (MT) in the era of AI translation by comparing general users and professional translators. A survey of 135 participants reveals that both groups show generally positive attitudes toward the usability and acceptability of MT. However, significant differences emerge in the evaluation of translation quality. General users perceive MT outputs as sufficiently useful for achieving their purposes, whereas professional translators assign lower ratings to cultural sensitivity, accuracy, and reliability. Moreover, general users primarily employ MT for everyday contexts such as learning and leisure, while professional translators use it as an auxiliary tool for generating translation ideas and post-editing. By extending the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) with translation-specific factors, this study offers a user-centered comparative analysis, providing practical implications for translation education and industry policy.
