This study aims to investigate the longitudinal changes of mobile phone dependency and examine the effects of aggression and depression on mobile phone dependency. The participants were 235 children in community service centers. The second panel data from the fourth-year to sixth-year of the community child center survey were analyzed. Multivariate latent growth model analysis was utilized. The results were as follows: First, levels of mobile phone dependency steadily increased from fourth-year to sixth-year. Second, both aggression and depression significantly predicted children’s initial levels of mobile phone dependency. In addition, depression significantly predicted their rates of increase of mobile phone dependency. This study provides evidence that aggression and depression are important factors in mobile phone dependency among children in community service centers. This study also offers baselines for early interventions and educational program development about appropriate use of the mobile phone by children in community service centers.
