The purpose of this study was examine the effects of combined exercise training on Lymphocyte subsets and lipid profiles in breast cancer patients. Twenty sedentary breast cancer survivors were randomly assigned either to a 12-week cardiovascular and elastic band strength training exercise intervention (3days/week) or to a usual care control group. blood lipid profiles including total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) and Lymphocyte subsets (B cell, T-cell CD3, T-cell CD4, T-cell CD8, NK cell) were collected at baseline and after 12 weeks. The results from t-test and ANCOVA of each variable are the followings. 1) Fasting TG level was decreased significantly in the exercise group(p<.01), but no significant change in the control group and the comparison reached statistical significance(p<.01) between groups. TC and LDL-C levels were decreased in the exercise group(p<.05), but no significant change in the control group and no significant difference between groups. HDL-C level was significantly increased in exercise group and the comparison reached significant difference (p<.05) between groups. 2) There are no significant changes and difference between groups and before and after 12 weeks combined exercise in Lymphocyte subsets. Participation in a 12-week combined exercise intervention was associated with a significant decrease in lipid profiles in breast cancer survivors. The cardiovascular and elastic band exercise program for breast cancer survivors may be mediated, in part, through changes in blood lipid level.
