The Moderating Effects of Career Decision Motivation between Novice Counselors’ Career Barriers and Psychological Burnout

초록

The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating effects of the Career Decision Motivation between novice counselors’ Career Barriers and psychological burnout. The subjects of this study comprised 175 novice counselors working at counseling centers in Korea. The results of this study were as follows. First, the counselors’ career barriers showed a positive correlation with psychological burnout, while novice Career Decision Motivation showed a negative correlation with psychological burnout. Second, among the sub factors of career decision motivation, pereceived recognition of the counselor’s social reputation and job flexibility had significant moderating effects. This study is significant in that it expands research on psychological burnout in novice counselors by examining the moderating effect of career decision motivation on the relationship between career barriers and psychological burnout. Specifically, it suggests the need for educational and systemic support to mitigate the negative impact of career barriers on psychological burnout in novice counselors.
