To achieve and practical model of the coaching knowledges of Korean professional basketball teams. Sequential study with three step is required to build a complete and at the same time practically applicable model of the coaching knowledge. In the first step, the coaching knowledge should be classified properly into knowledge elements which may be conceptual but should be homogeneous in nature. The second step is to measure quantitatively how important each classified element is in the actual coaching activities. Each step of the study should be carried out both theoretically and empirically. At first, logical approach with carefully designed a priori will be applied to construct the model. However, theoretical approach is not sufficient since the validity of the theoretical results should be checked or the quantitative nature of the results should be investigated. Empirical parts of the study are based upon the survey results of interviewing 14 head coaches of the Korean professional basketball teams with a carefully designed questionnaire. The first step of the study is completed in which the validity of the suggested structure of the coaching knowledge model is tested basted upon the data gathered from the above-mentioned interview survey. The high-level classifications in general. The second step of the study is purely empirical one. Using the survey data, the relative importances of the high-level and middle-level knowledge elements are measured. Especially, it is confirmed that the coaching application knowledge of the high-level elements, which is similar to the pedagogical content knowledge of the teaching knowledge model, plays the most important role among the knowledge elements.
