The Relationship of Self-Control and Academic Burnout of Adolescents: with the Mediating Effects of Parental Conditioning Regard and Psychological Control

The purpose of this research is to identify the relationship of adolescents' self-control and academic burnout with the mediating effects of parental conditioning regard and parental psychological control. A sample of 284 high school students participated in this study. Data was analyzed with SPSS Win 23.0 and SPSS Macro. The results were as follows. First, as self-control of adolescents got higher, their academic burnout got lower. On the other hand, as parental conditioning regard and psychological control got higher, their children's academic burnout also got higher. Second, the partial mediation effects of parental conditioning regard and psychological control were found on the relationship between adolescents' self-control and their academic burnout. Third, the dual mediating effect were founded not parental conditioning regard but parental psychological control. In sum, these results indicate that both self-control of adolescents and parental conditioning regard, psychological control represent key mechanism on academic burnout. The implications were further discussed.
