This study reviewed theoretical discussions on trust, political efficacy, and life satisfaction, and confirmed the factors affecting life satisfaction through a structural equation model. In addition, to expand the basis of the discussion, the effect of demographic variables on life satisfaction was also analyzed. As a result, the following four implications were obtained. First, the crisis of political participation observed in Korea arises from the gap between external and internal political efficacy. The former is low and the latter is high. The difference reduces life satisfaction and triggers the desire for direct citizen participation. Second, trust in the government and external political efficacy are highly correlated enough to be synonymous. Therefore, increasing trust in the government can be a way to not only stabilize political participation but also increase life satisfaction. Third, the higher the trust in the government and the higher the general trust, the higher the life satisfaction. It has become clear that trust is a social capital that can increase life satisfaction. Fourth, among demographic variables affecting life satisfaction such as average monthly household income(+), sex(male), age(-), level of education(+) and presence of spouse(existence), the average monthly household income has the greatest impact. This observation is significant in that it suggests the policy intervention sectors that the Korean government should pay attention to in order to improve people's life satisfaction in the future.
