This paper analyzes the 'historical consciousness' inherent in Park Tae-sun's literature, focusing on his novellas 'Open Eyes,' 'People on the Night Road,' and 'The Beauty's Money.' Park Tae-sun made his literary debut in 1964 and continued to write until his death in 2019, spanning various genres and consistently reflecting the political and social realities of his time. His literary journey combines historical facts with imagination to represent the voice of the people and to correct distorted histories. In 'Open Eyes,' Park Tae-sun attempts to revive suppressed memories that the official narrative tries to erase, thus uncovering counter-memory constructed by the populace. 'People on the Night Road,' set against the backdrop of the June Democracy Movement of 1987, exposes social contradictions through the perspectives of various workers and explores how the revolution impacts the formation of personal identity. 'The Beauty's Money' criticizes the contradictions and violence of the revolution, reflecting on the spirit of the 1970s literature to scrutinize and overcome the limitations of the 386 generation. Park Tae-sun's literature combines history and literature to critique social issues and plays a crucial role in making the contemporary public aware of the issues of the times. Based on the authorial mission that literature should contribute to solving the problems of the era, Park Tae-sun's work reminds us of the social role and responsibility of literature. In essence, his work demonstrates that literature, beyond being a mere artistic expression, serves as a powerful tool for social transformation and the pursuit of historical truth.
