This study examined the overall research trends on female university students’ depression and analyzed the structural relationships by applying keyword network analysis. To do this, a total of 134 papers published between 1980 and June 2025 were collected from the RISS platform of the Korea Education and Research Information Service(KERIS). From these studies, 526 keywords were extracted, and a keyword co-occurrence network analysis was performed. The results revealed that female university students’ depression was closely connected with anxiety, stress, body image, self-esteem, drinking, smoking, binge eating, lifestyle factors, and various counseling and therapeutic programs. In particular, anxiety and stress emerged as the most influential factors, while body image and self-esteem functioned as key mediating variables. In conclusion, this study provides a structural overview of research on female university students’ depression and is expected to serve as a basis for counseling practice, therapeutic interventions, and the development of emotional support systems and programs at the university level. Finally, since this study relied solely on the RISS database, the scope of the analyzed literature was limited, and the methodological characteristics of keyword network analysis constrained the contextual interpretation across studies. Therefore, future research should cross-validate data from multiple academic databases and integrate both quantitative and qualitative analyses to explore depression and emotional networks among female university students in a more comprehensive and in-depth manner.
