This study was conducted to extract types of perceptions of roles that childcare teachers perform, using Q methodology. Targeting 27 subjects, Q sort was carried out from December 4th to 14th 2019. First, Type 1 is caring role type. Here, childcare teachers perceived the role of a fosterer’ who is looking after infants and toddlers with love as parents (or as legal representatives), second, Type 2 is ‘educational environment safety pursuit’ indicating creation of physical and educational environments in consideration of the safety of infants and toddlers, third, Type 3 is ‘mutual cooperation in decision making’ indicating role performance for efficient decision making, and fourth, Type 4 is ‘professional growth as calling’ indicating improvement of quality as teacher for professional development and ceaseless efforts through professional training. It is anticipated that this role perception study will serve as basic data to seek systematic plans for improving education methods of teachers and enhancing the quality of early childhood education.
