초록
· Research topics: This study examines the perceptions of college students taking career-related liberal arts courses, and their participation and academic achievement in these classes and teaching activities, and analyzes their educational needs through importance-satisfaction analysis of class content. · Research background: Career education at universities aims for students’ successful entrance into society by helping them discover their talent and interest through a process of career exploration. In this context, many universities are emphasizing career education via basic liberal arts education that promotes holistic growth and development. · Differences from prior research: Based on the Importance Satisfaction Analysis (ISA) of the content of career-related basic liberal arts courses, this study derives the educational needs of students and suggests the direction of career education through basic liberal arts courses. · Research method: A survey was conducted with 224 students taking career-related basic liberal arts classes at ‘S’ Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea. One-way ANOVA and ISA were performed. · Research results: According to the analysis, the adequacy of course duration (eight weeks) and fairness of grading method (P/F) of the career-related basic liberal arts courses received the highest scores. It was also determined that career information, career case-based lessons, and career preferences and competency diagnostic assessments are needed to increase class participation and academic achievement. The ISA analysis shows that class content on the history of the university and prominent alumni, testing and interpreting career preferences, future life and evolution of jobs, and basic work skills do not help the career path of students. · Contribution points and expected effects: This study is expected to improve the quality of career education through basic liberal arts education and provide a direction for class management that can help students in their careers.
