This study aims to explore the effects of a married social worker's work-lifebalance through the parenting stress on parenting efficacy, and to examine whether thereare gender differences in the effects. Method: The questionnaire survey was conducted on private social workers and public socialworkers working in Seoul, Gyeonggi Province, and Incheon. Data from 223 socialworkers who are married and have children were analyzed. Structural equation modelinganalysis and multiple group analysis were used. Results: The results showed gender differences in the levels of work-life balance, parentingstress, and parenting efficacy. The results from the structural equation modeling analysis indicatedthat social workers' work-life balance indirectly affected parenting efficacy throughparenting stress. Specifically, it appears that parenting efficacy would heighten as work-lifebalance heighten parenting efficacy indirectly, by lowering parenting stress. The results ofthe multiple group analysis found gender differences in the effect of work-life balance onparenting stress. In detail, the effect of work-life balance on parenting stress was strongerin the female than male group. Conclusions: In order to lower parenting stress of a married social worker and heightenparenting efficacy, the measure to enhance work-life balance is necessary. In particular, theresults showed that work-life balance relatively affected female parenting stress more thanmale parenting stress. Thus, work-life balance of a female married social worker needs tobe paid more attention to.
