초록
This study analyzes gime (paper ritual objects), a distinctive element of Jeju Island shamanism, from the perspective of French phenomenology. Specifically, using Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology of the body and Bachelard’s poetics of space as theoretical foundations, it explores the dialectic between materiality and immateriality embodied in gime, the reconstruction of ritual space, and themultilayeredmeanings of temporality. Through this analysis, the study sheds newlight on the philosophical implications of Jeju’s shamanistic culture and explores the possibility of applying phenomenological methodology to the study of East Asian religious culture. In addition,we look at the possibility of reinterpretation in amodern context and contemporary cultural industrialization.
