This study analyzes the process through which the ideology of normalcy and ableism deeply rooted in Korean society form and operate by shedding light on how Korean society perceives and treats disabilities. Firstly, disabilities in Korean society are represented and reproduced repeatedly through language and media, creating prejudices and stereotypes about disabilities through negative expressions or distorted images. Individuals trapped in these prejudices become the targets of anger and hatred when they deviate from these images. Secondly, by focusing on the relationship between advances in medical knowledge and technology and disability prejudice, the optimism that disabilities can be overcome through the power of medical technology operates as a force that discriminates against and excludes disabilities, causing hate toward the disabled. Thirdly, various disability-related laws and institutions in Korean society contribute to the formation of negative disability discourse by defining disabled individuals as beings who should be discarded during pregnancy, isolated in facilities, constrained in mobility, regulated as beings requiring specific treatment, or through the absence of social support that sometimes turns impairments into disabilities. Rather than microscopically attacking the language, media, games, medical technology, and national institutions that serve as conduits for disability hate discourse, what is more important is a shift in perception and the cultivation of disability sensitivity. Therefore, overcoming disability hate is possible when there is a critical vigilance against viewing disabilities with distorted emotions from the production to the consumption of knowledge and information related to disabilities and improving existing perceptions about humanity and community.
