초록
Shin Myung-kyun, who belonged to Joo Si-kyung school, was a leader of Han-gul study and its spread. Above all, his writing performed as a kind of cultural movement made a great contribution to the modernization of the Korean language. The end of this study is to analyze the transcription and style of his writing in his papers and readers and to uncover the significance of his achievements in the history of the Korean language. He took the initiative in enacting the Unified Draft of Han-gul Orthography and put the transcription for silent reading into practice by applying the results of his research to his writing from early days. He proposed phonetic transcription matching the pronunciation, spacing words, morphemes, and word segments in order to make sense just by reading. His writings for Han-gul study and public education made use of a language speaker-centered empirical colloquial style. He objectified the writing subject, and constructed the casual and systematic connection between the sentence and the paragraph. He tried to popularize vocabulary using proverbs. In 1920s to 1930s, Shin Myung-kyun`s writing is meaningful in that he created a modern sentence model by refining the Korean writing and style.
