초록

This thesis is focused to examine the way how Yeom, Sang-seop's narrative desire to revive national identity in “Love and Guilt” is revealed in the dialectic relation between a cognitive structure and a emotive structure of text.The cognitive structure in “Love and Guilt” is built by socialist values that Kim Ho Yeon, a ‘horision-figure’, pursues. That is because Kim, Ho-yeon is playing a role as a reflective mirror in forming new lives of characters who are in confusion over the colonial life conditions.“Love and Guilt” is showing a desire to revive a national identity centered around male subjects on the aspect of a emotive structure' level. This narrative desire is expressed in a process of the otherizing female bodies such as Jeong Maria and Jee, Soon-yeong. This “Love and Guilt” narrative desire, however, is paradoxical because it corresponds with the imperialist desire to estrange female bodies.
