초록

The importance of studying the history of Gae'gyeong, which was the capital of the Goryeo Dynasty, is more than significant, in achieving an understanding of the nature of cities that existed in the medieval period of Korea, and not to mention the nature of the Goryeo Dynasty itself. In order to embark upon such task, all the relevant data should be secured and organized. There are many things to be desired from the current trend of studies dealing with the Gae'gyeong capital, as many of the previous studies have put too much emphasis upon the 'landscape' of the city. Future studies upon this particular topic should examine not only Gae'gyeong's landscape, but also all the human activities that occurred inside it. Furthermore, in the spirit of a comprehensive research, landscape studies of Gae'gyeong should include the examination of certain changes that took place 'after' the fall of the Goryeo Dynasty as well.
