초록

The purpose of this study is to explore online participation patterns experienced by adolescents—the digital native generation—and to analyze the meanings and limitations arising from those processes. To gain an in-depth understanding of adolescents' online participation experiences, this study utilized focus group interviews (FGIs). The participants consisted of a civic participation group (4 from youth participation organizations, 3 from civic groups) and a school participation group (3 from student councils, 2 from clubs); all were selected as adolescents with active participation experiences. The results showed that adolescents utilized digital spaces, such as social media, to express their opinions and perform participation-based activities, with some actively engaging in concrete actions like policy proposals. However, their attitudes and levels of engagement in addressing and discussing social issues varied depending on differences in their environments and experiences. To address this, it is necessary to provide diverse online participation opportunities for adolescents and to expand their participation experiences through the activation of digital platforms and educational approaches. Through these efforts, future adolescents will be able to cultivate their competencies as digital citizens and grow into agents capable of solving social problems.
