백제 한성도읍기 동명묘(東明廟)의 실체와 제사

초록

Dongmyong Shrine indicates a structure built in the burial site of Dongmyoung, the progenitor of Baekje. It also indicates the entire area of Dongmyong’s tomb in a broader sense. While the ancestral rites of Dongmyong Shrine were originally performed for the ancestors in the royal family, it came to be performed as a national rite since the reign of King Gho-ee and King Chaek-kye. The ancestral rites of Dongmyong Shrine that were performed just after enthronement functioned as enthronement ceremony. Through this ceremony the new king attempted to establish his authenticity as well as reinforcing his authority. Ceremonies were still being performed at the ancestor’s shrines during this time. The reason why the ancestral rites of Dongmyong Shrine were performed as the enthrone-ment ceremony is because the tomb-worshipping culture considered the memorial service held before the grave more important than the rites of the royal ancestor’s shrine.
