초록

There are rites in which a Ming Emperor gives sympathy gifts to the bereaved king(賜賻儀禮), the posthumous name to the late king(賜諡儀禮) and the Funeral Oration to a funeral(賜祭儀禮) in Joseon's funeral ceremonies(凶禮). The results of reviewing the process of establishing these rites in the early Joseon are as follows. First, the Ming sent related procedures(儀注) so that Joseon could perform these rites, and Joseon actively accepted them. The positions of the rite participants and the positions of the objects were all the same, and the overall rite procedures were completely the same. Second, among the procedures sent by the Ming, Joseon revised phrases that did not fit the situation of Joseon or inserted new phrases. This was a work to clarify that these rites were held for the king of Joseon in the land of Joseon. Finally, These rites contained in National Five Rites(五禮儀) did not follow customs and were thoroughly organized according to the political purpose of the rite. Accordingly, the rite of revealing the authority of the king by receiving sympathy gifts from a Ming Emperor was placed first.
