초록

This article reviewed, appraised, and synthesized all the results of forty-five years of research on the groupthink model using systematic reviews to identify the validity of the variables of Janis groupthink model and the other variables suggested by groupthink researchers. Based on the results of systematic reviews, revised groupthink framework termed the contingency groupthink model is presented. This model excluded the variables of member homogeneity, high stress, low temporary self-esteem, lack of leader impartiality, failure to re-examine rejected alternative, and failure to develop contingency plans from it and newly incorporates leader power, collective efficacy, closed leadership style behavior, leader expertise and experience, positive groupthink function, and acceptance of the decision. This model is meant to be applicable to a broader range of group problem situation than Janis groupthink model. Implications for future research and practice conclude the paper.
