초록

Having a problem for a long time with the fact that there was little interest in short historical novels storytelling, this study has analyzed the novelization method of folk tales and historical stories based on Kim Dong-ri's and Son Chang-seop's novels, while introducing the corresponding short historical novels. Kim Dong-ri's “Yeosu, a Traveler`s Melancholy” is a novelization of Choe Chi-won's tale, which currentizes events of the past through framed composition. It transforms a female character from a ghost into a living ‘problematic individual’, creating a conflict that was not in the tale. In this way, the story of lonely Choi Chi-won daydreamingly relieving his desire is transformed into a story of the solitude that is fundamentally impossible to solve by loving a person who is destined to be unable to love. Son Chang-seop's “Shine in the History” as a novelization of the Gyebaek story of “The Chronicles of the Three States”, reinterprets the historical evaluation of Gyebaek by constructing the victim's time, which is not actually recorded. The main character is changed to Bo Mi, Gyebaek's wife, and the event is composed in her focus, criticizing Gyebaek's cause recorded in history. Thus, the family murder case, which was felt as a tragedy from Gyebaek's point of view, turns into a satirical story with a comic sense. In the case of the two works, the novelization of folk tales uses a method to transform the elements of folk tales to more causally reveal conflict formation and its meaning, and the novelization of historical stories uses a method to critically interpret historical evaluation.
