The Mediating Effect of Countertransference Management Moderated by Social Support in The Relationship Between Mindfulness and the Working Alliance of Counselors

This study aims to examine the moderated mediation effect of social support on the relationship between mindfulness, countertransference management, and the working alliance among Counselors. The study surveyed 311 adult counselors nationwide using scales for mindfulness, countertransference management, the working alliance, and social support. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 26.0 and SPSS PROCESS Macro, sequentially verifying mediation, moderation, and moderated mediation effects with bootstrapping to ensure significance. The results are summarized as follows: First, significant correlations were found among mindfulness, countertransference management, the working alliance, and social support. Mindfulness positively correlated with the working alliance, countertransference management, and social support. Second, countertransference management showed a significant partial mediation effect on the relationship between mindfulness and the working alliance. Third, social support significantly moderated the relationship between mindfulness and countertransference management. Lastly, the moderated mediation effect of social support on the path from mindfulness through countertransference management to working alliance was confirmed across low, average, and high levels of social support.
