- Abstract
- This research deduces three characteristics from the ideological background, movement forms and artistic expression of directing effects from Erick Hawkins「Plains Daybreak」.
First, the naturalistic thought rooted in zen ideology is the foundation. Regarding the thematic approach, the unique Hawkins metaphorical expression is the zest added into the American Indian ceremonial dance. Furthermore, the intention of establishing animals as main cast, the reflection of his naturalistic thought onto the piece can be observed.
Second, the movement that considers the individuality and purity of the cast is emphasized. The differences in movement of the characters such as buffalo, antelope, coyote, porcupine, hawk, fish, snake, raccoon and first man are definite.
Third, the severed directing effects’ artistic expressions are in harmony. The strong, but yet simple background music, the soft and natural costume colors and the mask worn by the cast express a thematic harmony.
