dc.description.abstract | 본고는 전후 미일관계의 표상에 반복적으로 나타나는 젠더적 구도에 주목하면서, 아리요시 사와코(有吉佐和子)의 장편소설 『비색(非色)』(1963)이 그리는 전후서사를 고찰한다. 전후일본을 대표하는 여성작가 아리요시는 ‘재녀(才女) 붐’이한창이던 1959년에 록펠러재단의 지원을 받아 일 년 동안 뉴욕에 체재하였다. 아리요시가 귀국 후에 발표한 『비색』은, 점령기에 흑인 GI와 결혼하여 뉴욕 할렘으로 이주한 일본인 ‘전쟁신부’의 시점에서 점령기 일본과 동시대 미국을 그려낸다. 아리요시는 이 작품에서 전쟁신부의 일인칭서사를 통해 국민국가의 서사 안에자리 잡지 못한 대항적 기억(counter-memory)을 이야기한다. 이는, 미국=점령자=강자와 일본=피점령자=약자라는 이원적 대립구도에 입각하여 점령을 둘러싼 집단적 기억을 구축하고, 이를 젠더적 구도를 통해 표현함으로써 국민의 일체감을 형성해 온 전후일본의 점령서사의 내셔널 내러티브를 전복시키는 ‘허스토리’로 읽을 수 있다. 또한, 문화냉전의 부산물로 쓰여진 『비색』은 미국사회의 인종차별의 실태를 그리면서 차별이 작동하는 원리를 근원적으로 사고하고자 한작품으로 주목된다. | - |
