This study compares and observes the critical message construction methods of both language cultures by analyzing Korean and English editorials related to COVID-19 using Martin and White's (2005) appraisal theory. It examines the differences and similarities in how these two groups expressed their critical opinions. It interprets that the two main commonalities are a general anxiety over the spreading virus and the disapproval of the complacent attitudes of political leaders and their administrations. The main difference, however, is found in the usage of evaluation language, influenced by their contrasting socio-political climates during the pandemic. The study also explores differing linguistic characteristics and critical rhetoric of the respective languages.-
