- Abstract
- It appears to be appropriate that the performance assessment, which emphasize the a rent on the process as well as the outcome, should be utilized as an assessment strategy in the dance, considering the purposes of dance such as balanced development of the body and acquisition of spatial perception through the dance and the enhancement of expression and creative ability thorough the creative performance. However, the performance assessment has not been utilized widely in the field because due to the following problems: 1) the subjective tendency of the assessment, and 2) inadequate understanding of the difference between the traditional assessment strategy and the performance assessment. This study was designed to examine the validity of the performance assessment and to provide the suggestions too enhance the validity in the process of dance performance assessment. The study would be considered as the first step to find the possibility of the performance assessment to be applied properly to the held of dance. The suggestions found through the examination were as follows: First, the performance task should be selected appropriately and should be consistent with the purpose of the dance education in order to enhance the content validity of dance performance assessment. Second, the selected performance task should be fulfilled actively during the process of instruction and should be reflected fully to the assessment in order to enhance the instructional and intrinsic validity of dance performance assessment. Third, the experiential evidence regarding the positive effects of the performance task should be identified in order to enhance the consequential validity of dance performance assessment. Based on the aforementioned suggestion, future studies exploring more valid performance evaluation strategy in dance assessment and would be warranted. The effort to develop the performance evaluation strategy applicable to the field of dance education would be also warranted. As a result of the attempts, it would be expected eventually that the performance assessment should be identified as the brilliant assessment strategy, which could assess the value of the dance.
