dc.description.abstract | This study analyzes why the Egyptian and Moroccan ordinary men and women support violence against the U.S. military and asymmetric terrorist attacks targeting U.S. civilians. The results show that there is no significant correlation between dissatisfaction with U.S. foreign policy and support for terrorist attacks. Meanwhile, there is significant correlation between opposition to American values and support for terrorist attacks. The U.S.’s regulations on oil, support for dictatorial regimes, and unilateral foreign policies show a significant correlation with support for terrorism targeting the U.S. military. Therefore, this study confirms that resistance to U.S. foreign policy is significantly correlated with support for attacks targeting the military. Accordingly, it reveals that both Egyptian and Moroccan citizens can distinguish asymmetric terrorism―terrorist attacks on civilians―from violence against the military. In other words, while they agree with attacks or violence targeting the U.S. military as protest against U.S. foreign policy, they occasionally also support attacks on civilians. | - |
