dc.description.abstractAccording to A History of Modern Chinese Fiction, Eileen Chang (Zhang Ailing)’s fictions reflected not only cosmopolitan modernity but also traditional human relationship under the society of modern China. As her works recently have been paying attention, many research articles and dissertations published in Korea and western countries. The purpose of this study is to review and compare the research trend of Korean and western researches for the Eileen Chang’s fictions. While 4 dissertations and 57 research articles were published in Korea, 19 dissertations and 62 research papers have published in western countries since 1971. In the result of excluding the research themes thatinclude Eileen Chang’s life, movie, and essays, totally 12 dissertations and 40research articles were selected from them. Their researches on Eileen Chang’s fictions could be categorized into three major themes including feminism,colonialism, and narrative. Feminism, colonialism, and narrative were discussed by Korean and western researchers. Although Korean researches commonly described the female subjectivity in the aspect of feminism, western researchers emphasized the progress of female awareness in the Eileen Chang’s fictions. Similarly, there was contrast in the aspect of narrative in Korean and western studies. Interestingly, the loss of mental under the colonial era was commonly discussed in the aspect of colonialism. From the differences and common interest between the Korean and western researches, expanding the research field with the intertextuality and multi-aspect interpretation of traditional narrative will be important theme for the further studies.-
