This study aims to identify music therapists’ musical work use status at clinical settings and their awareness of musical copyright and observance behavior and then utilize these as basic data for in- creasing music therapists’ awareness of musical copyright and activating their copyright education. The results of analyzing the survey data for 87 music therapists are as follows. First, music therapists’ awareness level of copyright law was generally low. As they became younger, their understanding of protected works and freely-available works was high. On the other hand, their awareness level of mu- sical copyright was high. And they thought that protection of musical works would be needed and felt that musical works had not been acknowledged in our society yet. Second, therapists whose aware- ness level of copyright law was high appeared to have a high average score in copyright literacy and observance behavior. Third, they thought that music therapists were using live accompaniment largely in a session and 3-4 music pieces per session. And the intervention method utilizing copyright prob- lem appreciation caused the most copyright-related problems. Moreover, therapists who had experi- enced copyright-related problems at clinical settings experienced the biggest difficulties when select- ing largely session music and sharing session data into social media. Fourth, Music therapists felt the need for music copyright education. To protect music and have right awareness toward musical copyright, musical copyright education and promotion are the most essential parts. Furthermore, par- ticipation intention for musical copyright education programs appeared very high. This study has sig- nificance in that it looked at clinical therapists’ awareness of copyright and observance behavior and provided basic data for copyright-related researches and education.
