Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate what kind of adjustment the aged confront in their new lifestyle and how successfully they could experience their aging by participating in specially designed dance education program for their age group. The followings were proposed as the result of this study. First, The participants appear to include not only negative aspects of aging such as physical limitations and social aging but also positive aspects of aging such as wisdom and having many experiences, considering aging. Second, the participants experience their sense of rejection toward new types of dances which were different from the dances they had learned in the previous dance class. The participants in the research, however, recovered their confidence and seemed to enjoy pleasure of dancing in association with their improved self-expression and passion for dancing as the numbers of classes increased and their levels of dance movement are elevated. Third, the participants' experiencing dance education provided such personal benefits as physical well-beings, cognitive abilities, and prevention from failing of memory. In a social and communal aspect, furthermore, they developed higher self-esteem as a member of the community and their desire of participation and more developed interpersonal relationships in the community helped the participants more socialized and socially active. Fourth, the participants perceive that successful aging include physical health, emotional security and subjective peacefulness or feeling of wellness through the dances.
