Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship of the demographic characteristics of men in their 20s to their awareness of ultraviolet rays and sunscreen and their use and purchase of sunscreen in an effort to raise awareness of the harmfulness of ultraviolet rays and provide information on the right use of sunblock. The major findings of the study were as follows: The majority of the men that accounted for 89.1 percent viewed ultraviolet rays as detrimental to the skin, but they weren't well aware of ultraviolet rays and sunscreen products on the whole. Less than half them that represented 46.3 percent made use of sunblocks, and they didn't use the products in an incorrect way. Therefore it seems necessary to provide education for men. 53.6 percent bought sunscreens themselves, and the largest group of those who didn't do that replied that their spouses or female friends bought the products for them. The rate of the latter stood at 68.3 percent. It implies that marketing strategies for cosmetics for men should be targeted at women, and the number of cosmetic shops for men only should be increased to make it more comfortable for men to buy cosmetics.
