Abstract
This study set out to analyze a quinoa extract for amino acid composition with an amino analyzer and test it for cystine content, hair curling, binding properties, and hair damage prevention, thus providing basic data for the development and direction of protein extract-based pretreatment. The subjects include ten single women in their twenties or thirties with healthy hair. Samples were obtained by collecting their hair in 15cm length in the laryngeal region 5cm distant from the root of hair. Curling augmentation effects were examined by calculating wave efficiency in case of permanent wave, and improvement of binding properties was checked by measuring and comparing hair with a colorimeter in case of hair coloring. It was also tested whether pretreatment with a quinoa extract-containing product would prevent hair damage with a tensile strength meter and scanning electron microscope. Consequently the application of quinoa extract should be increased in amount in order for it to generate the same effects as the animal ingredient. the animal ingredient and quinoa extract generated similar effects on curling augmentation in case of permanent wave and hair pretreated with a quinoa extract was compared with hair pretreated with an animal ingredient for color vividness in case of hair coloring. It was also hair pretreated with a quinoa extract was also compared with hair pretreated with an animal ingredient for tensile strength. Hair treated with a quinoa extract was compared with hair pretreated with an animal ingredient for surface observation. As a result, ore amount of quinoa extract should be applied to improve hair surface than an animal ingredient, which indicates that it has effects of a pretreatment.
