- Abstract
- This study has attempted to determine how smoking by women affects premature aging and negative facial skin changes with a goal of comparatively analyzing skin conditions between smokers and non-smokers after observing the effect of smoking on facial skin compared to non-smokers' skin. SPSS v.17.0 was used for data analysis and a frequency analysis, cross-tabulation analysis and independent samples t-test were performed. The results were obtained: First, according to the survey, ‘10 or less’ and ‘10 years or longer’ were the highest in terms of the number of cigarettes smoked per day and the length of time the individuals had been smoking.
Most women started smoking in their early 20s. There was statistical significance between smoking and non-smoking groups, and rates of alcohol consumption and drinking were high among female smokers. In addition, they had longer sleeping hours and suffered from irregular wakeup and bed times. Moreover, female smokers became more stressed on an irregular meal pattern. They were also lower than non- smokers in terms of daily water intake. Health-wise, female smokers were lower than non-smoking women in terms of stool frequency. In addition, the former suffered from irregular menstruation and had weight control experience. In terms of facial skin management, female smokers treated their skin about once a month while non-smoking women did so weekly at home. The former were more interested in special care products than the latter. It could be said that female smokers seem very concerned about skin damage.
